13. Barney Swan and ClimateForce

Meet Barney Swan - son of Rob Swan (O.B.E.), and the young founder of ClimateForce.

Barney established ClimateForce in 2017 with the aim of making sustainability more accessible, relevant and engaging, and the global non-profit is currently on a seven-year mission to remove 360 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions before 2025. Through regional collaboration and internal expeditions, ClimateForce offers simple opportunities to develop our schools, businesses, and lifestyles more responsibly.

To launch ClimateForce, Barney became part of the first team in history to successfully ski to the South Geographic Pole using solely renewable energy. The journey of over 1000km, which took them over 60 days to complete, demonstrated that the NASA-designed solar ice-melter, hydro flasks and biofuels were robust enough to work in one of the world's harshest environments, echoing the message that if we can make these efforts in Antarctica, we can develop more sustainably anywhere and everywhere in the world.

While I certainly won't be doing anything as extreme as Barney, his story is incredibly inspiring, and for me, really highlights what the youth and our generation is capable of when we combine passion with determination.

In the words of Barney Swan,

"Let us design a future we are proud of. Lead by example. Protect and regenerate our ecosystems. Use technology to create a positive impact. Educate and accelerate. Clean up some trash."
